Happy New Year everyone! I wanted to share my 2020 Vision board to hopefully inspire you to create one this year if you haven’t done so. This is actually my second year creating a vision board and honestly I’m kind of sad that I didn’t do this SOONER!
I always thought I was a goal-oriented person, I would have the typical new year’s resolution that went something like this…. Diet and Exercise, Travel More, Spend more time with Family, Self-Care, etc. Very, very general goals and although they are a great start they never really motivated me and I would forget them come February.
I wholeheartedly believe that creating your life the way you want is 100% up to you. So that’s where the Vision Board comes into play.
So what is a Vision Board?
The text-book definition – a collage of pictures, text, and other items that represent and affirm one’s dreams and ambitions, created to help visualize and focus on one or more specific aspirations. Also known as a Dream Board.
My definition – A colorful and inspirational board filled with your aspirations and dreams, that help you focus on these goals by having a visualization that you can look at every day to help you stay on track and manifest your dreams.
I am a big believer in the Law of Attraction, which is the belief that you will attract what you are focusing on. You focus your mind on goals and change your mindset to be more positive then more positive things will happen which in turn helps you accomplish your goals, you know you get what you put out into the universe.
With that said, Vision Boards are perfect to help you stay focused and in the right mindset so that you can accomplish all your goals. Being in the right mindset will help you open your eyes to new opportunities and find creative ways to help you reach your goals!
Now the fun part!
How to Create a Vision Board?
I usually have some goals (actually a lot) in mind as the new year approaches, but the ones that excite me and make me super giddy to accomplish are usually the ones that make the list.
Think about what you really want to accomplish in the next year, some great questions to ask are:
What is my dream life?
Where do I see myself in a year from now?
What can I do in the next year that would get me closer to my dream life?
What are some things you want to accomplish in your life but may be putting aside because of fear? Bucket List items are great here!
Who do you admire? Why?
What inspires me?
How do you want to improve your relationship with family, love-life, career, etc?
Now that you have a plan for your year, let’s get creative!
The vision board that I created was a physical one, you can also make a digital one and save it as your screensaver on your phone.
As a DIYer and Crafty momma that I am, I love to be able to create one from scratch (kind of like a scrapbook page) and mount in my office. I am there everyday so this works best for me. I highly recommend you find a place that you will see your vision board on a DAILY basis, I can not emphasize this enough! Like I mentioned above having your vision board in front of you helps you stay focused and motivated.
As for the actual board itself, this is completely up to you and your style. You can use cork board, foam boards, a canvas and even poster board. Last year I made a pretty big foam board vision board and I loved it but this year I wanted it a bit smaller and sturdier so I could hang it in my office, so I went with the craft wood canvas that my bestie bought at Walmart.
For the images and text, you can really use anything that you want that helps represent your goals. Some great ideas are:
- Magazines cutouts
- Newspaper cutouts
- Books
- Printed images/quotes from the internet
- Photos
- Embellishments/ stickers, etc.
Remember that the images and text are the most important thing for your vision board, this is what is going to help you visualize your goals and help keep you on the right path!
So choose images and text that really call to you and really represent what you want to accomplish.
Once you have all your materials, it’s time to CREATE! Everyone has their own style so this is your time to shine and really inspire yourself.
Last year I used magazine cutouts and some internet print outs. I knew what I wanted to accomplish and I knew what the images meant to me. However this year, I actually added a little comment to each image to be very specific and intentional with my goals to help hold me accountable. For example, I cut out a 5K running training schedule for my vision board not just because I want to run more but because I want to specifically run a 5K and a 10K by the end of the year.
Now What? What to do after creating your Vision Board?
Once you have an amazing and inspiring vision board, remember to hang it somewhere you will see it everyday. For me that is my office, for you that could be your bedroom side table, your vanity, even your bathroom. Whatever you need to do to make sure you see it daily.
Use this vision board to create your weekly goals to help you stay on track. Remember making the vision board is the first part, creating the life you want is the second part and this is on you!
I like to plan my week on Sundays and I have my vision board goals in mind when creating my weekly plan. This is also a great time to reflect on what you have done in the year that is getting you closer to accomplishing your goals!
Let me know in the comments if you plan on making a Vision Board this year! Also feel free to share any tips and inspiration that you use when creating your vision board!
See you soon,
