DIY Valentine’s Day Home Decor

DIY Valentine\'s Day Home Decor

Welcome back Crafting Beauties! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I thought I would share this very easy and fun DIY that I made using a craft wood slatted heart I found at Target!

Valentine Home Decor

I’ve only recently gotten into decorating for other holidays besides fall holidays like Christmas and Halloween, and I love it! It is so much fun to partake in all the holiday traditions and decorate my home to get into the spirit.

And although I am on a debt free journey right now, does not mean that I can’t spend a few dollars to decorate my home. $4.50 to be exact. I loved that I was able to create such an easy DIY for less than $5 with things that I already had. Of course if you don’t have a healthy obsession of craft supplies like I do most of these things you can find at the dollar store. Except for the frame. I definitely recommend using a large sturdy frame since you will be hanging your art from it. Thrift stores are a great place to find affordabl frames!

Supplies

– Craft Wood Heart (I got mine from the Target Dollar Spot (Bullseye’s Playground) – $3
– Assorted acrylic paints (I used a white, pink and red from Walmart for .50 each) – $1.50
– Ribbon/ Tulle (I had tulle on hand so I used that instead but ribbon works too!) – Free
– Hot glue gun/ glue sticks – Free
– Frame (I used a frame I already had on hand) – Free
– Photo booth pics/ small pics – Free 🙂

You can find the full video tutorial on my Instagram TV HERE! Or you can see the quick and dirty version at the end of this article!

I started by painting my slatted wood heart and I wanted to do an ombre style paint job. So I first started with the white paint at the top, added a bit of pink and so on working myself to the red/pink mix and finally finishing with the red paint at the bottom. (Hope that makes sense)

I only did one coat of each paint, but you can add a second coat for more vibrant colors. I liked how it looked with one coat so left it like that.

My endless amount of photo booth pics were the perfect fit for the small slats on the wooden heart. If you do not have a ridiculous photostrip collection like mine, using wallet sizes or even trimming regular pics to size would also work.

I cut my favorite pics to size and using my handy ATG gun I stuck them down to the wooden heart.

I happened to have some tulle leftover from a previous project and used that for this project. However if you have ribbon that would work as well. Whatever you have on hand or is free, best motto!

I measured how much tulle I would be needing by placing the heart on the frame and eyeballing it. I found that it was easier if I tied the tulle to my frame before gluing it to the heart. This gave me a good idea of how much tulle I would need.

TIP: I added a bit of extra of tulle. It’s always easier to trim at the end then end up with ribbon or tulle that is to short to tie your bow.

Once the hot glue was completely dried. I grabed the frame and tied a bow like I would my shoe laces and cut off any excess.

As I mentioned earlier I already had the frame so I just popped out the glass, picture and backing. The great thing about this project is you do not mess up the frame so you can reuse the frame once Valentine’s Day is over.
